We are pleased to offer practical, curriculum-linked training sessions designed to support and inspire teachers to make full use of school grounds as effective outdoor learning environments.
This training helps staff maximise the educational value of raised beds, greenhouses, and outdoor spaces, transforming them into “green classrooms” that directly support learning across the curriculum. Sessions are closely linked to Science, Biology, Geography, Environmental Studies, Food and Nutrition, Sustainability, Eco-Schools, and Outdoor Learning, with clear guidance on how to embed gardening activities into everyday teaching.
Teachers will explore practical, low-maintenance approaches to school gardening, including planting through the seasons, maintaining productive growing spaces during term time, and harvesting crops with pupils as part of meaningful learning experiences. The training also covers setting up and managing effective, pest-free compost systems, supporting understanding of ecosystems, decomposition, and sustainability within a real-world context.
All seeds and seedlings are provided, along with hands-on demonstrations and practical guidance to ensure staff feel confident implementing activities straight away. Ongoing gardening advice and support is also available following the session, helping schools sustain and develop their outdoor learning provision over time.
This session can be delivered as part of your Eco Day or as a flexible, informal drop-in between other activities, depending on what best suits your school.
It provides practical, easy-to-use advice to help staff make the most of outdoor spaces such as raised beds and greenhouses, supporting Science, Geography, Sustainability, Eco-Schools, Food and Nutrition, and Outdoor Learning.
