Plastic in our Rivers and Oceans Assembly

Plastic is a part of our daily lives, whether it be a bottle, a straw, or plastic bag, it makes up a large part of the materials we regularly use. When carelessly discarded plastic reaches our rivers and seas it poses a threat to the animals that live there and depend on the them for food. As our consumption of plastic mounts, so too does the danger to river and marine life through items being mistakenly consumed or trapping fish, mammals and birds.

In this 20 minute assembly we explore single use plastics, the impact they have on our environment and their alternatives. Rich images, videos and lively Q&A with pupils highlights the issues faced as a result of plastic in the rivers and oceans and the innovations in materials to create alternatives. All Key Stages will leave the assembly with an increased awareness of the issues surrounding single use plastics and an understanding of the part we can all play to help reduce their usage.
