The destruction of the rainforest is one of the largest environmental issues facing mankind. In this 20 minute assembly we take a look at the biodiversity of the rainforest and some of the causes of deforestation.
The presentation starts by listening to the sounds of the rainforest. We quickly discover that rainforests are one of the most diverse ecosystems on the planet, containing two-thirds of all the world’s plant and wildlife species. We explore how large areas of rainforest have been cleared to make way for cattle farming, soya bean production and the logging of commercially valuable hardwoods such as teak and mahogany and how these practices result in species loss.
Rich images, videos and lively Q&A with pupils bring this extraordinary habitat to life and raises awareness of the global challenges species face. All Key Stages will leave the assembly with a greater understanding and wanting to know more.
