Trees play a huge role in storing carbon from the atmosphere, which makes them vital in the fight against climate change. In this 20 minute assembly we look at how important trees are for locking up carbon, cooling our cities and providing food and habitats. Recent research has shown that we need to increase tree cover in the UK by 50% to meet our targets to cut greenhouse gas emissions. In this assembly pupils will learn about the environmental benefits of planting trees and some of the strategies in place to increase tree cover nationally.
We look at how as we return trees to the landscape we improve our habitats for wildlife, with mammals, insects, birds, and butterflies becoming abundant as nature takes hold.Rich images, videos and lively Q&A with pupils bring this topic to life and raise awareness of the benefits of a tree rich UK. All Key Stages will leave the assembly with increased knowledge of how important trees are in every habitat.
